Personal Narrative
As the eldest daughter of an artistic/musical physicist father and an author/philosopher professor mother, I have great reverence for science, education, research, and theology. But I found my greatest life inspirations in art, music, poetry, design, and performance.
Many of my friends would say I have lived more life than my years would seem to belie. The many twists and turns of my adventures have given me an engaging versatility, an empathetic heart, and an insistent curiosity - all qualities to dynamically give vocal life to the written word.
I grew up in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States linguistically and culturally shaped by both southern and northern influences. And from the diverse port of my native Baltimore with its multi-ethnic communities, I heard and assimilated the rich heritage of all corners of the world and the dire inequities of a colonial birthplace.
I have lived small and terrified on the street and large and confidently in my own majestic mini-mansion. From an exchange student in a 600-year-old Spanish tenement to an entrepreneur in a self-designed mountaintop cabin in New Mexico, my life has been punctuated with many storytelling opportunities.
The formal training of my youth includes a Bachelor of Arts in Language and Linguistics with a minor in Theatre, advanced training in Bilingual Education, and a second degree in Electronics. I worked professionally in theatre, film, and audio-visual production for seven years before moving into corporate Information Technology work. My move to New Mexico returned me to design work. Initially at the Santa Fe Opera, then The Santa Fe Repertory Theater, and eventually my own design studio.
After a nearly fatal crisis at the age of 39, my attention turned to health, personal care (www.earthgift.com - line of herbal soaps), and advocacy for individuals with environmental and chemical sensitivities. This sent me on new investigations in the areas of chemistry, business, and agriculture.
I have had the good fortune to have voiced radio spots, public service announcements, and educational videos. I am a founding member of the Toastmaster chapter of the Albuquerque Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. I continue to speak publicly through the personal businesses and organizations in which I am involved.
